Polishing & Type of Finishes

Hand Polishing & Waxing

Traditional Hand Polishing using a cotton cloth soaked in  French Polish/ Shellac is a time consuming way to finish Antiques or fine furniture.

Hand waxing with pure beeswax can take many hours of building up layers.

Hand polishing  can take several days as we have to allow for the slow drying of traditional finishes and to slowly build up the depth of polsh required.

It is not a tough finish and cannot withstand a harsh environment but its has a look and feel that is unrivalled.

Spray Finishing

Using up to date modern Lacquers and Stains can give a very durable and very long lasting low maintainance finish to any piece.

Finishes are available in clear or tinted. Matt, eggshell, sating, semi gloss or even full gloss.

The surfaces are super smooth and provide a strong barrier to protect the timber.

The process is quite quick. A Dining Table typically finished in two days and 24 hours curing time.

Oiled or OSMO finishes

A relativly new finish called OSMO is now being widely requested and offerd on any type of surface.

It is appllied by hand and usually requires three coats that take 24 hours to dry. Once it is finished it is probably one of the most durable coatings available. It cannot crack, peel or blister. It can withstand high direct heat or cold and harsh environments.

I have used it successfully on worktops in the kitchen as it is waterproof and heat proof.

We have used it on floors, staircases and even outdoors!
